On Feb. 18 the American Legion Treptow Unit 230 and Post met for their monthly meeting at their hall. Together the Post and Auxiliary were trying to set up The Operation Troop Support for the Area.
More than 3,500Iowans will be deployed this year. That is the most since WWII. The Legion has set up a committee to get the community aware and have them support of this program.
The committee will contact the radio and newspaper with more info on this. The community needs to be here to help our troops and the families left behind. It was also decided that at the next meeting they would be working on making bags to take to the Sioux Falls Veterans Hospital for the children of Veterans that come with their parent for services.
It was announced that they sent five care packages over to Haiti for operation Hygiene. Also 16 ditty bags when to the Homeless Vets. These were sent to the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls. They also sent five care packages to servicemen over seas. They only have 19 members and were very happy to be able to do so much. The community help with their fundraisers makes this possible. The American Legion held its mid-winter conference in Des Moines the 12th of Feb. through Feb. 14. The American legion Auxiliary National President from New Mexico was in attendance. Claudia and David Brown from the Unit and Post attended and brought back a lot of info about different programs going on. If you know of anyone that is or will be deployed from the area anytime soon please contact the Unit or Post. They want to be there to help. Contact Claudia Brown at 712 225 3449.
