Area natives receive honors at Northwestern

Monday, March 1, 2010

Bryan Case (left), a 1989 Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn graduate, watches as Pete Stevenson, a 1975 grad of Meriden-Cleghorn, (middle) receives the Barnabas Award from the duo's college alma mater, Northwestern College.

The Barnabas Award is bestowed upon former Raiders who have encouraged others to strive for their best performance athletically, academically and personally, and who used their sport as a way to bring others to a knowledge of Jesus Christ. Stevenson, a 1979 Northwestern graduate, is now a deputy sheriff in the state of Washington.

Case, now of Lake City, received the 2009 Coach of the Year award from the school's Red Raider Club. Case has compiled a 76-21 record in nine years as the football coach at Southern Cal High School.

The pair were honored, along with 2010 NW Hall of Fame inductees Brandon Woudstra, Jaime Woudstra, Nick Scholten and Renae Bahrke, at a luncheon at the school on Feb. 20, and were later recognized that afternoon at halftime of the Northwestern - Sioux Falls basketball game. Photo contributed.
