STORM LAKE, IA-The Springer's Gymnastics teams were in action on Saturday, Jan. 30, at the first of two home meets for the club. Nine teams with a combined total of almost 80 gymnasts competed in the "Candyland Invitational" at the BVRMC-Fitness and Health Center.

Springer's had four teams competing at this meet instead of the usual two or three, as the Level 5 gymnasts joined the competition to get some experience at competing before joining the traveling teams once their skills are advanced enough.

The nine teams were divided into an upper and lower division with the Springer's Black team taking 1st place in the lower division with a team total of 93.3 for the day. Following them were the Tumblewest Twisters at 88.75, the Clover Kids-Teal at 84.7, Redwood Falls at 83.7 and the Level 5 gymnasts were 4th place in that division with a total of 59.1, in what was for most of them their first competition ever.

The smallest age group at this meet was the Senior category, with only four competitors and all of them in the upper division. Springer's Blue team's Shelby Gruntorad took 1st in all four events as well as the all-around in that age group.

The junior age group was divided into an upper and lower division, with four of the juniors competing in the lower division and the other 14 in the upper division. The upper division was further divided into a 12 yr. old group and a 13 yr. old group. Brielle Kolpin and Lexie Patton of Aurelia, along with Mikki Hinkhouse of Cherokee, were the local athletes competing as twelve year olds in the upper division of that age group along with a multitude of other Springer's gymnasts.
