Two Gymnastics teams complete regular season

OWATONNA, MN- Two of Springer's Gymnastic teams completed their regular season here on Sunday, February 21, in an upper division meet against six other teams from Minnesota and Wisconsin.

The teams were divided into an upper and lower division. In the upper division, the Springer's Blue Team placed 2nd with a team total of 120.45. They were behind the host team Owatonna-Tsunamis who had 135.55 pts. In 3rd was the River Falls Stars with 119.2 and the Jackson Achievers were 4th with 118.55 pts. In the lower division the Owatonna Blue Lightning was 1st with 119.6 pts., followed by the Jr. Eagles-1 team with 108.8 and then Springer's Pink team was 3rd with 107.65 pts.; and in 4th was the Jr. Eagles-2 team at 90.95.

The age groups were also subdivided into an upper and lower division. In the Novice category, upper division, there were only three competitors, including Annika Patton of Aurelia and Kylie Mongan of Cherokee, both competing for Springer's Blue Team. On vault, Annika placed 3rd with a 7.05, while Kylie was 2nd with a 7.45. On bars, Annika was 3rd with a 5.5, while Kylie was 1st with a 7.1. On beam, Annika was again 3rd with a 5.2 and Kylie was 2nd with a 7.2. On floor, Kylie was 3rd with a 7.0 while Annika was 1st with a 7.75. In the all-around Annika placed 3rd with a total of 25.5 and Kylie was 2nd with a 28.75 total for the day.

In the lower division of the Novice age group Megan Brown of Cherokee, competed for the Springer's Pink Team. On vault, she placed 2nd with a 7.45 mark, on bars she was 3rd with her score of 5.4, on beam it was a 6.0 that earned her 5th, and on floor she was 3rd with a score of 6.9. In the all-around scoring her total of 25.75 earned her 3rd place honors.

In the Children's age group upper division Tiernan Kolpin of Aurelia, who competes for Springer's Blue Team, placed 5th on vault with a score of 7.4 and 4th on bars with a 6.55 mark. Tiernan's 6.4 on beam put her in a tie for 2nd place, and on floor she was 6th with a 6.3. In the all-around standings, she ended up in 3rd place with her total of 26.65.

The remaining three local athletes were all competing in the Juniors age group. In the upper division was Brielle Kolpin, of Aurelia, who competed for Springer's Blue Team. Brielle placed 3rd on vault with a mark of 8.05 - the highest score earned by a Springer's gymnast on the vault during the meet. On the bars she was in 2nd place with a 7.1, on beam she was also 2nd with a mark of 8.1 and on floor her 7.8 put her in 5th place. In the all-around scoring, Brielle's total of 31.05 earned her 2nd place for the day.

In the lower division of the Juniors age group, Lexie Patton, of Aurelia and Mikki Hinkhouse of Cherokee both competed for Springer's Pink Team. Mikki took 6th place on the vault with a 7.25 mark, while Lexie vaulted into a tie for 2nd place with a score of 7.65. On bars, Mikki was 3rd with a 6.2 and on beam it was Lexie in 5th with a 5.8.

In the floor event, Mikki made it into 5th place with her score of 6.5. In the all-around standings, Mikki's 24.35 total earned her 6th place honors, while Lexie ended the day in 10th place with her total of 22.65.

The Springer's Boosters and teams will be hosting three of the seven Division Meets on Sat. March 13 and Sun. March 14 in the Storm Lake Middle School gym. The competition will involve eight teams in each of the three divisions for a total of around 200 gymnasts over the two days of the competition. The first meet-for Division 6 will start around 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, followed by the Division 5 meet, which will start around 5 p.m. Then Division 4 will compete on Sunday morning, starting around 10:30 a.m.

The Springer's Blue Team is currently ranked in Division 3, which means they are scheduled to compete in Mankato on Saturday, March 20 in the morning meet. The Pink Team is currently ranked in Division 7, which would have them competing in Glencoe, Minnesota on Sun. March 28.
