Wellness Center to host free anti-tobacco event

Thursday, March 4, 2010

On March 8, 9, and 10, the Cherokee Regional Medical Center's Wellness Center, along with the Tobacco Free Coalition and JEL kids, will be hosting a free event during the Cherokee School's Spring Break.

This event is open to all children from grades 3 through 8 and will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 pm. You do not have to be a member of the Wellness Center to participate in this event.

There will be lots of games and activities, as well as prizes and pizza. Some of the games and activities that will be scheduled are Dodgeball, knockout, relays, swimming and more. Special guest speakers include Cole Johnson from the state JEL Field Staff. While the kids will be having a fun afternoon filled with games and events, they will also be learning about the dangers of tobacco use, and why it is important to live a healthy tobacco free lifestyle.

Clean athletic shoes and attire is required. You can also bring a swimsuit and towel if you want to go swimming during the designated time.

Kids are welcome to come one day, or all three days. The Wellness Center asks that all non-members as well as members below 5th grade be picked up by 4 p.m.

For details and questions, you can call the Wellness Center at 225-6858.
