Maredith "Chris" Newell, the daughter of Henry and Marion (Ludwig) Christie was born June 14, 1942, in Battle Creek. Her childhood years were spent in Battle Creek where she attended School and graduated from Battle Creek High School.
After graduation, Chris attended college in Indiana for three years. Following her schooling, she moved to Cherokee, where she worked as a bookkeeper for Friedrichsen Grain.
On Aug. 11, 1973, Chris was united in marriage to Dale Newell in Cherokee County. They started their own trucking business where she served as the bookkeeper and helped Dale with trucking.
In her free time, Chris liked to play games on the computer, volunteer as a teacher's aid for the Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn School System, and spend time at family reunions, but most of all, Chris enjoyed being around her family and helping those in need.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Dale Newell of Meriden; one daughter, Tammy Trout of North Little Rock, Ark.; son Tim (Phyllis) Ricklefs and their son, C.J. of Marcus; one brother, Richard (Sharon) Christie of Des Moines; one step-daughter, Marlo Cassiday of Kingsley; nephew, Brandon Newell; as well as other nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.
