According to information provided by the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH), the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices issued a recommendation in July of 2009 for healthcare and emergency medical services personnel along with four other initial target groups to be the first to receive the 2009 H1N1 influenza vaccine. As a follow-up to this recommendation IDPH has conducted a survey of Iowa hospitals to study the percentage of healthcare workers in Iowa who received the H1N1 vaccination through February 19, 2010.
Cherokee Regional Medical Center (CRMC) was one of 81 Iowa hospitals to complete this survey. Results of the survey showed that CRMC's rate of employees vaccinated for the 2009 H1N1 Influenza was 60%, or 5.1% higher than the state rate of 54.9%. According to a national survey only 23% of U.S. healthcare workers received the 2009 H1N1 vaccine from October to December 2009.
