The following students were among over 280 outstanding high school students, representing 17 states, to participate in a Northwestern College Scholarship Day recently.
Local students included: Jessica White of Cherokee from Washington High School, Emily Bush of Cleghorn from Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn High School, and Andrew Volkert of Correctionville from River Valley High School.
The students were involved in interviews and a writing competition in January and February. Northwestern College faculty, staff and students evaluated them on the basis of their potential for academic success, leadership and effective Christian service.
The participants were students who had already qualified for Northwestern College honor scholarship and were competing for additional funding to their Presidential of Collegiate scholarships. The top six Presidential Scholarship winners will be designated Norman Vincent Peale Scholars and receive $60,000 over four years of study at Northwestern.
Criteria for the Peale Scholar candidates included a ranking within the top 10 percent of their high school class or a minimum 3.7 grade point average, and a minimum ACT score of 27.
