The River Valley Speech department learned recently that three of their students who performed at the IHSSA Individual Events State Speech competition held on March 13 at Sibley-Ocheydan were named outstanding performers. They were: Emily Reinking in her Literary Program entitled "The World of Shopping", Casey Herron in his interpretation of Roy Blount Jr's "Food Poems", and Mary Foley for her poetry interpretation "Cinderella".
By receiving this honor, the students qualify for an appearance at the 32nd Annual All-State Festival, which will be held Monday, March 29 at the University of Northern Iowa. To have been selected out of nearly 9,000 who started competition at the District level is a unique honor. Four hundred students from the state of Iowa have been selected as Outstanding Performers. Jane Lenz is the students' speech coach.
