MARCUS - The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn girls won the final two events - the 4 x 400 and 4 x 100 relays - to edge the Kingsley-Pierson/Woodbury Central girls for the Girls' Team title at Monday's MMC Relays here.
The Lady Eagles also received a couple of record-breaking performances from their sprinters as they took the team title with 130 points to KP/WC's 124 points.
Erica Dreckman won the 100 meter dash in a track record time of 12.78, while teammate Ashley Schneider also set a new track record in winning the 200 meters with her time of 27.07.
MMC also won the 4 x 200 and sprint medley relays and took seconds in the shot put (Taylor Hohbach), 3,000 meters (Monica DeLaCruz) and 4 x 800.
The MMC boys finished third in the Boys' section of the meet, scoring 87 team points to Kingsley-Pierson/Woodbury Central's 200 and Akron-Westfield's 129.
The Eagles were led by Will Hanson, who set a new track record of 14.51 in winning the 110 hurdles, and Jay Welp, who was a double winner, taking the 3,200 meters with a time of 10:33.19 and the 1,600 meters in a time of 4:56.71.
MMC also won the medley telay, and second place finishes were recorded by Blake Erdman in the 100 meters (11.53), Zach Specht in the 800 meters (2:19.02), and the 4 x 400 relay, where they were beaten by KP/WC by just .55 (3:44 to 3:44.55).
