A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 10, 2010, at First Church of Christ in Cherokee. Pastor Tom Lewis will officiate. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at First Christian Church on Saturday. Online condolences may be sent at www.greenwoodfuneral.com. DoraDean Kahl, the daughter of Walter and Alice (Raney) McManus, was born on Nov. 13, 1924, in Cherokee. Her childhood years were spent in Cherokee, where she received her education and graduated from Wilson High School in 1942.
DoraDean was the youngest of eight siblings. She lived most of her life in Cherokee. On April 6, 1953, Dora was united in marriage to Eldo Kahl in Cherokee. They were married almost 40 years before his passing.
DoraDean had a passion for life and tried to live as she believed. She was an active member of First Church of Christ, where she enjoyed teaching Sunday school. She was a natural organic Christian and tried to pass it on to others, although she was not always welcomed. DoraDean enjoyed working, visiting with her friends and church family, but most of all she loved being around her family.
DoraDean was preceded in death by her husband, Eldo Kahl, five siblings, and one grandson.
She is survived by five children: Dan (Mary Jo) Dorr of Pagosa Springs, Colo., Janis (Steve) Neff of Cape Coral Fla., "J." (Joni) Kahl of Cherokee, Jolene (Russell) Bittner of Des Moines, and Dean Kahl of Shelley, Minn., seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Harold McManus of Cherokee; one sister, Hazel Boulay of Harbor City, Calif.; as well as other relatives and friends.
