'A Fun-Filled Hair Affair' planned for Ladies' Night Out

Wednesday, April 14, 2010

After eight events in the past four years, with a total attendance of more than 1,650, 'Ladies' Night Out for Dynamic Women' is planning a "Fun-Filled Hair Affair" for Monday, April 26 at The Family Life Center of the Meriden Evangelical Free Church in Meriden.

Pictured, left to right, are Jada Jones, Jerri Frangenberg, Jane Schmillen, Traci Fredricksen and Lynda Oster of Jane's Salon. They will be demonstrating what's new in hair designs at the April 26th Ladies' Night Out at the Meriden Evangelical Free Church. File photo.
The evening will begin with a light supper at 6:30 p.m., with a choice of potato or salad bar and dessert.

A lively special feature will be presented by Jane's Salon on East Main in Cherokee. Jane Schmillen, Lynda Oster, Jerri Frangenberg, Traci Fredricksen and Jada Jones will demonstrate braiding, hair extensions, barrel crimping, straightening, and an 'updo'- simultaneously, with Sioux City TV personality Jackie Schmillen covering all the action. Guests will also be treated to a drawing for gifts donated by Jane's Salon.

All hairdressers who attend are invited to bring their business card to be put in for a special drawing. They will also be introduced to the evening's guests.

Guest speaker and soloist for the evening is songwriter and recording artist Danette Lickiss from Indianola. Presenting "Learning to Fly through Life's Hair-Raising Adventures-How to Find Stability in a Changing World," she brings wisdom and humor as she shares bad-hair days, her experience as a military pilot's wife, and mothering her three children, ages 2-12.

Imagine moving thirteen times in twelve years? Lickiss claims that the most difficult part of each transition was finding a new hairdresser.

Tickets are $8, paid for at the door, but reservations/cancellations are necessary and will be accepted through Thursday, April 22 or until places are all spoken for. Contact Sue (376-4405)at scdorr@midlands.net or Shirley (436-2637).

If you cancel after the 22nd, you are requested to please find your own replacement or call/e-mail to check for a waiting list or to arrange for payment of your ticket.
