Library hosts guest speaker

Monday, April 19, 2010

Students attending the library program at the Meriden-Cleghorn Community Library last week heard Mark Napier, right, explain the importance of water to everyday life. Students learned that water makes up 83% of our blood. Napier, who works at the Cherokee Water Treatment Plant, fascinated his listeners by sharing the steps involved in getting water to their homes: water is pumped out of the ground, chemicals are added, and the water is then pumped to one of the four water towers in Cherokee. The water is piped from those towers to homes and businesses. The students were amazed to learn that the water tower at the junction of Highways 3 and 59 holds 1 million gallons of water.Napier answered several student questions. Photo contributed
