Kara Nelson places in 2 events at Sioux City Relays

SIOUX CITY - Cherokee Washington alumnus Kara Nelson, a junior at Morningside College, placed in two events in the College Division of the Sioux City Relays, which were run last Friday and Saturday at Elwood Olsen Stadium here.

Nelson, the daughter of Jim and Sue Nelson of Cherokee, finished third in the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase, with a time of 11:24.99 and also finished fifth in the 5,000 meter run, with a time of 17:58.99. In both events, Nelson finished just ahead of her senior teammate, Erin Keitges.

Two former Alta athletes also scored points for the Morningside men and women at the meet, as Deidre Hinkeldey, a sophomore, finished 8th in the women's 400-meter Hurdles, with a time of 1:06.50; and freshman Michael Huseman ran on the Mustangs' Men's Sprint Medley Relay team, which finished second with their time of 3:33.15.
