MMC girls second at Poky meet

Eagles win 5 of 6 relays

POCAHONTAS - The talented Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn girls track and field team continued to turn heads by winning five of the six relays on the way to a runner-up finish at the Class B Poky Relays here Tuesday night.

Manson NW Webster won the team title with 172 points, followed by MMC 135, Prairie Valley 94, Laurens-Marathon 81, and Alta 67.

MMC individual firsts went to Erica Dreckman's 13.1 time in the 100 meters, Ashley Schneider's 27.4 clocking in the 200 meters, and Sarah Bird's 2:43.1 time in the 800 meters.

MMC won five relays, including the distance medley of Rachel McDermott, Carly Lehnhoff, Amanda Hoefling, and Bird timed in 4:47.2; the 4x200 of Jena Mittlestadt, Hoefling, Schneider, and Dreckman timed in 1:51.6; the sprint medley of Mittlestadt, McDermott, Schneider, and Dreckman clocked in 1:56.8; the 4x800 of Kayla Foresman, McDermott, Jeri Welp, and Kelsey Sears timed in 11:43.6; and the 4x100 of Mittlestadt, McDermott, Schneider, and Dreckman timed in 51.9.

The Eagles' 4x200, 4x100, and sprint medley times are new meet records.

In addition, MMC's 4x400 relay was second in a time of 4:39.1, with Lehnhoff, Foresman, Sears, and Hoefling aboard.

Other top individual finishes for coach Ric Collins Eagles were Foresman third in the 400 meters in 1:09.8, Brandi Orr third in the discus with a 90-5 1/2 throw, Taylor Hohhbach fourth in the shot put with a 29-5 1/2 effort and fourth in the discus with an 89-0 effort, Mittlestadt fourth in the 100 meters in 13.5, Lehnhoff fourth in the 200 meters in 29.5, Maria LaPointe fourth in the 400 meters in 1:11.1, and Sears fourth in the 800 meters in 3:02.

"It was a perfect night with strong competition and our efforts took us to season's bests," said MMC coach Collins. "Everyone put up points to help reach our season high 135 points."

The MMC girls placed in three relays at the recent Sioux City Relays, with the 4x100 earning third, and the 4x200 and 4x400 finishing fourth, featuring the girls listed above.
