Estherville-LC swept all nine varsity matches to dispose of Cherokee 9-0 in Lakes Conference girls tennis action here last week.
In varsity singles for Cherokee, Demi Dunn lost a heartbreaker 10-8 to Lexie Hash at #1, Denise Freed lost 10-1 to Erin Olson at #2, Amanda Kohn lost 10-1 to Kaylene Vos at #3, Sarah Ruehle fell 10-0 to Emily Swalve at #4, Hillary Wilkie lost 10-2 to Kelsie McCauley at #5, and Amber Haupert fell 10-1 to Morgan Kirchner at #6.
In varsity doubles, Dunn and Kohn lost 10-2 to Olson and Vos at #1, Freed and Ruehle lost 10-3 to Hash and Kirchner at #2, and Wilkie and Haupert lost 10-1 to Emily and Corin Swalve at #3.
In JV singls for Cherokee, Taylor Meyerhofer lost 8-1 at #1, Emily Estala lost 9-7 at #2, Paige Stieneke lost 8-1 at #3, Shelby Bingham lost 8-1 at #4, Brianna Fowler lost 8-1 at #5, and Hanna Henson lost 8-3 at #6.
In JV doubles, Meyerhofer and Stieneke lost 8-6 at #1, Estala and Henson lost 8-3 at #2, and Bingham and Fowler lost 8-1 at #3.
"Demi fought hard and played well only to lose a heartbreaker at #1 singles," said Cherokee first-year coach Tricia Koster. "In JV, Emily lost a very close match, and Taylor and Paige played very well in losing a close match in doubles."
The Cherokee girls play at the Lakes Conference Meet in Le Mars Saturday, and host Storm Lake Monday.
