STORM LAKE - Cherokee's Paxton O'Connor carded an even-par 36 to capture medalist honors at a rugged Lakes Conference boys golf triangular including the Braves, Spencer, and host Storm Lake at the Lake Creek Country Club.
Spencer nicked Cherokee for the team title with a sizzling 154, followed by the Braves with 159, and Storm Lake 163.
Other low scores for Cherokee were Brock Benson 39, Matt Pitts 40, Jakes Spindler and Adam Pitts each 44, and Austin Winchell 48.
Spencer's Joe Clark was runner-up medalist to O'Connor with a 37. Ryan Gutz was low medal for the Tornadoes with a 40.
"It was a good day, but we just couldn't quite match Spencer," said Cherokee coach James DeVos. "I have to give Spencer credit, they are a great team. They found a way to shoot in the mid-150s. That's impressive and fun to watch.
"The Cherokee boys played very well, including Paxton's medal round. He's been playing extremely well and hopes to continue his hot streak for a while. Our 159 team score marks the first time we've broken 160 at Lake Creek since I've been coaching at Cherokee, so we gave Spencer a run."
The Braves are now 4-1 in the Lakes Conference, and 15-5 over all.
IN JV action, Spencer won the team title with 194, followed by Cherokee 221, and Storm Lake 223.
Austin Mongan was JV runner-up medalist with a 47, and Spencer's Dillon Schulz was medalist with a 45. Other scores for the Young Braves were Shane Bush 57, Zac Anderson 58, Nick Schram 59, Casey Godfrey 63, and Gabe Conley 72.
