Le Mars sweeps WHS girls tennis

LE MARS - The talented, experienced Le Mars team shut out the Cherokee Washington High's girls 9-0 here last week in Lakes Conference tennis action.

In varsity singles for Cherokee, Demi Dunn lost 10-3 to Natalie Miller at #1, Denise Freed lost 10-0 to Erica Westhoff at #2, Amanda Kohn lost 10-4 to Carolyn Ahlers at #3, Sarah Ruehle fell 10-7 to Molly Fischer at #4, Hillary Wilkie lost 10-8 to Stephanie Young at #5, and Sanna Miller fell 10-2 to Catie Meis at #6.

In varsity doubles action, Dunn and Kohn lost 10-4 to Miller and Westhoff at #1, Freed and Ruehle lost 10-2 to Ahlers and Fischer at #2, and Wilkie and Miller lost 10-1 to Young and Meis at #3.

In JV matches, Le Mars claimed an 8-1 victory. In JV singles for Cherokee, Amber Haupert won 9-7 at #1 for her team's long victory.

Also in JV singles, Taylor Meyerhofer lost 8-5 at #2, Emily Estala lost 8-6 at #3, Paige Stieneke lost 8-4 at #4, Shelby Binham lost 8-6 at #5, and Brianna Fowler lost 8-1 at #6.

In JV doubles, Meyerhofer and Stieneke lost 8-4 at #1, Haupert and Hanna Henson lost 8-4 at #2, and Bingham and Fowler lost 8-3 at #3.

The Cherokee girls host Storm Lake tonight and travel to Spirit Lake Park Thursday night for two more rugged Lakes Conference matches.
