Donna Miller, age 74, of Ida Grove, formerly of Aurelia, died Thursday, April 29, 2010, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove. According to her wishes, Donna's body was donated to medical science at the University of Iowa.

Memorial services will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 6, 2010, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta, with Pastors Larry Adler and Duane Olson officiating. Food and fellowship will follow at the Alta Community Center. A Celebration of Life will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 7, 2010, at the Aurelia Community Center. Born January 21, 1936, in LeMars, Iowa, Donna Mary Ellen Miller was the daughter of Donald and Gladys (Laux) Carrico. She was the adopted daughter of Wilbur and Amy Augusta (Tupper) Laux. Donna grew up and received her education in LeMars, then earned her teaching certificate at Westmar College. She furthered her education at Buena Vista College and continued learning throughout her life.

On August 19, 1956, Donna married Gaylen Francis Miller in LeMars. The couple was blessed with four children, Amy, John, Elizabeth, and Patrick.

Donna was a life-long educator. She began her teaching career in Sibley and subsequently taught in the Aurelia and Ida Grove school systems. She taught many years in Ida Grove in various capacities, and after her retirement continued to volunteer on a daily basis. Donna was devoted to her students and maintained an interest in their lives and accomplishments even after they left her classroom. She especially loved following her kids' and grandkids' sporting events.

Donna was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta. She was a talented vocalist and enjoyed sharing her gifts through the musical program there.

She is survived by four children, Amy Kathleen (Robert) Mikos of Aurelia, John Joseph (Teresa) Miller of Aurelia, Elizabeth Mary (Joseph) De Monico of The Woodlands, Texas, and Patrick Andrew (Mary) Miller of Holstein; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. She is also survived by two sisters, Margaret (Rudy) Adler of LeMars, and Jean Davis of Ironwood, MI.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gaylen Miller; her parents; and two sisters, Dorothy Bartels and Helen Murray.
