MMC girls 2nd at Eagle Relays

SOS 2nd, Eagles 4th in boys division

MARCUS - The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn girls were runner-up and the boys placed fourth at Friday's MMC Eagle Relays here.

Coach Ric Collins' girls squad notched four firsts and a whopping seven second-place finishes to battle winning Orange City Unity Christian for the team title.

The Knights won the team crown with 171 points, followed by MMC 127, Alta 97, Remsen St. Mary's 86, Granville Spalding 47, and South O'Brien 45.

Individual firsts for the Lady Eagles were Erica Dreckman with a 13.4 clocking in the 100 meters, and Ashley Schneider's 27.3 time in the 200 meters.

MMC won two relays and was second in three more against the rugged competition. The 4x200 relay of Jena Mittlestadt, Amanda Hoefling, Schneider, and Dreckman won in 1:51.6; and the 4x100 relay of Mittlestadt, Rachel McDermott, Schneider, and Dreckman won in 52.1.

Earning seconds were the distance medley relay of McDermott, Carly Lehnhoff, Hoefling, and Sarah Bird in 4:49.9; the sprint medley relay of Mittlestadt, McDermott, Schneider, and Dreckman timed in 1:55.1; and the 4x400 relay of Lehnhoff, Kayla Foresman, Kelsey Sears, and Hoefling clocked in 4:40.1.

MMC's shuttle hurdle relay of Mallory Roseen, Jeri Welp, Monica De La Cruz, and Sears was fourth in 1:28.6.

Taylor Hohbach was second in the shot put for MMC with a 29-3 effort, and was third in the discus with an 85-5 throw. Brandi Orr was second in the discus with a 91-3 throw. Foresman was third in the high jump with a 4-4 leap, and Miki Kinjo was fourth with a 4-0 jump.

Bird was second in the 800 meters in 2:44.7, and Mittlestadt was second in the 100 meters in 13.9. Anna Wilcox placed third in the 3000 meters in 13:51.8.

For the South O'Brien girls, Casie Rehder was second in the 400 hurles in 1:07.38, and Kaitlyn Aberson was third in the 1500 meters in 5:46.10.

The SOS 4x800 relay was second in 11:22.38, the sprint medley relay fourth in 2:10.57, the distance medley relay fourth in 5:20.81, the 4x200 relay fourth in 2:02.44, and the 4x400 relay third in 4:44.55.

No names were submitted for the SOS girls relay teams.

In boys action, MMC rang up six firsts, including Jay Welp's double wins in the 1600 meters (4:48.02), and the 3200 meters (10:21.22).

Will Hanson was first in the 110 hurdles in 15.32, and second in the 400 hurdles in 58.14.

MMC won four relays, with the shuttle hurdle winning in 1:02.96, the 4x100 winning in 45.19, the 4x400 winning in 3:33.80, and the medley winning in 3:54.40. The Eagles were third in the 4x800 in 9:54.83, fourth in the 4x200 in 1:37.99, and fourth in the 4x100 in 48.55.

No names were submitted for the MMC boys relay teams.

South O'Brien's boys won the 4x100 relay in 45.19, were second in the 4x400 in 3:36.86, third in the shuttle hurdle in 1:08.27, second in the 4x800 in 9:11.96, second in the 4x200 in 1:34.73, and second in the medley in 4:02.15.

No names were submitted for the SOS boys relay teams.

Individually for the SOS boys, Mike Faust led the way with a second-place finish in the 100 meters in 12.25, Jarod Syndergaard was second in the long jump with a leap of 19-5 3/4, Hunter Fiddelke was fourth in the long jump with an 18-10 1/2 effort, Ben Wagner was third in the high jump with a 5-8 leap, Zac Lund was fourth in the discus with a 104-6 throw, Dillon Zimmer was second in the 200 meters in 23.97, Fiddelke was fourth in the 200 meters in 24.41, Nathan Struve was fourth in the 1600 meters in 5:11.77, Matt DeVos was fourth in the 400 meters in 56.69, Drew Johannsen was fourth in the 110 hurdles in 18:48, and fourth in the 800 meters in 2:18.14.

Unity Christian also won the boys team title with 180 points, followed by SOS 123, Alta 102, MMC 86, RSM 33, and Granville Spalding 25.
