WHS girls compete in Lakes tennis

LE MARS - Spirit Lake Park won the 2010 Lakes Conference girls tennis team title here Saturday after totaling 17 points (matches won) in the highly-competitive round-robin tournament.

Estherville-LC was second with 16, followed by Le Mars 15, Storm Lake 6, Cherokee 3, and Spencer 3.

For Cherokee Washington High, Demi Dunn and Amanda Kohn placed fourth over all with a 2-3 match record on the day at #1 doubles. The WHS duo beat Storm Lake and Spencer, and lost to Le Mars, E-LC, and SLP.

Denise Freed placed fifth in #1 singles after posting a 1-4 match record, and Sarah Ruehle finished sixth at #2 singles after going 0-5. Also, Hillary Wilkie and Sanna Miller were sixth at #2 doubles with an 0-5 match record.

"All the girls played very hard and competed well," said Cherokee's first-year coach Tricia Koster. "Demi and Amanda made All-Academic All-Lakes Conference and our team finished fifth over all."
