SPENCER - The improved Cherokee Braves claimed two first-place finishes and two runners-ups while finishing in the middle of the pack at last week's Spencer Relays here.
Senior Nolan Sampson was second in the high jump with a 6-0 effort, and the Braves medley relay team of Jeremy Werthman, Schuck, Sam Hinkhouse, and Husman was second in 3:50.35.
Cody Stowater earned a third-place finish in the shot put with a 49-3 1/2 heave, and Brock Dagel was fourth with a 47-4 effort. Dagel was fifth in the discus with a 124-8 throw.
Cherokee's 4x400 relay unit of Husman, Schuck, Sampson, and Jakob Hummel was fourth in 3:56.26.
Two other Cherokee relays earned sixth place, including the 4x100 team of Hinkhouse, Aampson, Werthman, and Schuck timed in 48.7; and the 4x200 team of Hinkhouse, Sampson, Werthman, and Hummel clocked in 1:40.15.
Also for the Braves, Jaden Lux was sixth in the 1600 meters in a time of 5:19.45.
Host Le Mars won the team title with 155 points, followed by Sheldon 110, Spencer 94, Emmetsburg 62, Cherokee 55, Estherville-LC 46, Hull Western Christian 33, and Storm Lake JV 33.
In JV action at Le Mars, Jon Hunt led the Young Braves with a second place finish in the shot put with a 40-4 1/4 throw, and Dawson Voge was sixth in the shot put with a 34-11 1/2 effort. Voge also was fourth in the discus with a 92-03 throw. Husman was fifth in the long jump with a 16-6 1/2 leap, and Kyle Comstock was sixth with a 15-11 3/4 effort.
The Cherokee JV was third in the 4x400 relay with Zack Taylor, Eamon Adamson, Jeff Wiemold, and Tyler McLaughlin timed in 4:21.29; and fourth in the medley relay with Ben Sampson, Comstock, Taylor, and Adamson clocking a 4:11.84.
