On Thursday, Hot Dog Days will again be held in Cherokee. The downtown merchants will be grilling from 5 p.m. until the hot dogs are gone. The Cherokee Youth Summer Ball Association parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. The parade will begin at the parking lot on the corner of 5th and Main and proceed east down Main to the Hy-Vee Drugstore parking lot.

This long-standing tradition in Cherokee continues and grows with the second annual "Top Dog" competition. The grilling businesses will compete in three areas - presentation of grilling competition, creativity, and condiments. The competition is heating up every day. A trophy will be awarded to the winner to display for one full year at their business.

These fine businesses will be grilling this year: American Theatre, Aventure Staffing, Bomgaars, Central Bank, Cherokee Lumber, Cherokee State Bank, Cherokee Villa Nursing and Rehab, Denny's Service/Copper Cup, Fashionette, Darren's Clothing Co., The Gardens, Gustafson Realty, The Groom Room, Hy-Vee Food Store, Hy-Vee Pharmacy, Hy-Vee Drugstore, Letsche's Bike Shop and Radio Shack, Ludvigson Chiropractic, Northwest Realty & Professional Survey Services, Quilt'n Kaboodle, Rhoadside Blooming, House Royer's Jewelry, United States Post Office, and Valley Bank & Trust with Greenwood Funeral Home. A total of 5,520 hot dogs will be grilled this year.

The Cherokee Chamber of Commerce sends a big "Thank You" to Tyson Retail Deli and all the staff there for the great locally made hot dogs and to all those taking the time to grill for the community and their customers.
