Each year about this time things start to gear up for the summer reading program. Make a Splash @ Your Library is the 2010 theme and it is proving to be fun to work with. Kids and water seem a natural mix especially in the summer.
We are going to kick off the reading program which actually happens during the month of July with a "prequel" event on Thursday, June 3. Thanks to the Friends of the Library we are bringing Curt Strutz, the Bassmeister to town.
Curt is a professional fisherman from Sussex, Wisconsin who has competed in the Bassmasters Tournament Trail, the Canadian Open, the FLW Tour Everstart Series and the Gander Mountain Invitational Bass Tour. He does a variety of professional fishing seminars all related to bass fishing for sports shows and outdoor events.
In addition, Curt provides the program we are bringing to Cherokee. It is called "Fishing for Laughs." It covers basic fishing skills and water safety in a fun format designed to bring the excitement of fishing into people's lives. We encourage kids of all ages including those who are just kids at heart to come and listen to his presentation. Reviews of his programs are great and often mention his hilarious props and clean comedy.
Since we hope to have a large crowd, we are hosting this at the Cherokee Community Center on the lower level. We ask people who are coming to park in the high school lot or the lower level parking lot as an event for senior citizens will be taking place on the upper level that day and we would like to leave the top parking lot available.
Mark your calendars, round up your kids and grandkids and plan to join us Thursday, June 3, at 10 a.m. at the Cherokee Community Center. Having a child with you is not mandatory so please come even if you don't have any kids or grandkids to bring. It will be fun for all ages!
Later in July we will be hosting two other wonderful programs. Lisa Laird and her puppets will be at the Sanford Museum on Friday morning, July 2, at 10:30 a.m. courtesy of a gift from Ann Gordon and Tony Startt. On Thursday evening, July 15, at 6:30 p.m. we will be back at the community center for a program by Indiana Bones, a professional storyteller, brought to us with a gift from Paul and Marilyn Cedar.
We are very excited to bring performers of this caliber to Cherokee and hope that everyone will make an effort to attend the programs. We will soon have fliers available at the desk listing dates and times. Stop in and pick one up!
