Mary Ann Bush, age 91 of Cherokee, passed away Sunday, May 9, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. today at Immaculate Conception Church in Cherokee. The Rev. Armand J. Bertrand officiated. Burial will be at Maryhill Visitation Cemetery in rural Cherokee. Visitation was held at noon on Wednesday with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday night at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee. A rosary was held by the Catholic Daughters at 4 p.m. on Wednesday with a prayer service starting at 7 p.m. at Greenwood Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent to www.greenwoodfuneral.com.
On Jan. 6, 1942, Mary Ann was united in marriage to Lester Bush in Remsen. Following their marriage, they lived on the family farm where she helped with chores and raised their 10 children.
Mary Ann was a member of Maryhill Catholic Church, the Maryhill Guild, and the Catholic Daughters of America. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, dancing, snowmobiling, traveling, and of all things doing laundry, but most of all Mary Ann enjoyed being around her family and friends. The last several years have been spent at Carriage Hills in Cherokee, where she had many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Lester Bush; her parents, John and Lena Nilles; her son Mike Bush in 1981, daughter, Sharon Geary in 2000, brother and sister-in-law, Ted and Julia Nilles; sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Marvin Kohn; and two brothers-in-law, Ray Grage and Francis Jaminet.
She is survived be her children: Shirley Bush of Urbandale, Elaine (David) Kaltved of Estherville, Ron (Gayla) Bush of Quimby, Barb Butler of Omaha, Neb., Phil (Norma) Bush of Cleghorn, Sandy (Tim) Tuttle of Aurelia, Jackie (Scott) Reinert of Cherokee, Les Bush of Aurelia; daughter-in-law, Julie (Chuck) Woolley of Cherokee; and son-in-law, Skip Geary of Texas; 21 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; as well as several nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends.
