Thursday, May 13, 2010

GLENCOE, Minn.- The M.A.G.A. Individual Gymnastics Championships were held here on Sat. March 27, 2010. Nine gymnasts from the Springers Gymnastics program in Storm Lake competed at the meet, and six of them were from Cherokee and Aurelia. Twenty-four girls competed in each event in each age group, and the top 12 were eligible for All-Around scoring. Qualifiers were determined at the six Division meets, which had been held over the previous two weekends.

The scores announced that day were not accurate, but after a few weeks' delay, the final standings have now been released.

Brielle Kolpin of Aurelia competed in three events in the Junior Age Division, placing 17th on the bars, with a score of 7.8; 12th on the beam, with a score of 8.125; and 11th on the vault, with a score of 8.475.

Tiernan Kolpin of Aurelia competed in the Children's Age Division. She competed on the beam and floor and placed 20th in each event. Tiernan's beam score was a 6.65, and her floor score was 7.6.

There were also four local athletes in the Novice Division. Megan Brown of Cherokee competed on the vault event and scored a 7.7, to take 21st place for the day. Rowan Kolpin of Aurelia competed on bars, where her 7.05 score placed her 11th.

Annika Patton of Aurelia competed on both vault and floor. Her vault score of 7.8 put her in 18th place, while her floor score of 7.75 earned her 16th.

The only local athlete to qualify for the all-around competition was Kylie Mongan of Cherokee. She earned a 7.75 on floor, which placed her 17th, while on beam her 6.9 placed her 14th. On bars, Kylie scored a 7.275, which was good enough for 7th place and her 8.1 vault score was also a 7th place finish. This made her all-around total a personal best of 30.025 for the day, which earned her 10th place.

This meet completed the competition season for the gymnasts, who will now spend the summer working on new skills and routines to get ready for next year.
