Cherokee County Engineer Dave Shanahan gave an updated report on the C-38 overlay project to the Cherokee County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday. The project consist of laying one inch of asphalt to even out the road and to create a buffer zone with an additional seven inches of concrete on top of the asphalt.
Shanahan reported that Road Closed signs were up and detour are now in place for the closed section of C-38. The effected section begins west of Cherokee near the city limits and is closed through Cherokee Township into Sheridan Township to L-51.
Shanahan layout the detour, he indicated that westbound traffic can use C-44 to L-51 back up to C-38 and that eastbound traffic may want to use L-51 to Hwy. 3 into Cherokee.
Shanahan also sought the approval from the Board for two underground permits in Cherokee Township Section 15 for Iowa Lakes Electric and Cherokee Rural Water. The Board approved Shanahan's request.
Also Shanahan submitted a wage authorization request for Tom Wilson, summer intern. The Board approved the wage authorization and set Wilson's wage at $15.99 per hour.
In other business the Board received a financial updated from Jason Titcomb, President of the Cherokee Soil and Water District Board.
Titcomb thanked to Board for its support and stated that the financial outlook for 2010 looks good and hopes people keep implementing the water conservation program in Cherokee County.
The final bit of business of the Board on Tuesday was the approval of publication of the 2010 Register Annual Great Bike Race Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) and set a date for a public meeting to read the ordnance.
Publication will be next week in the Chronicle Times and the Marcus News. The Board set the date for the public meeting and reading for May 25.
