SPENCER - The Cherokee Washington High girls tennis team ended regular season play here Thursday night with a 7-2 Lakes Conference loss to Spencer.
In varsity singles for Cherokee, Denise Freed lost 10-7 to Mindy Lovan at #1, Amanda Kohn lost 10-5 to Abby Bedore at #2, Sarah Ruehle beat Grace Toele 10-7 at #3, Hillary Wilkie lost 10-4 to Amanda Edwards at #4, Sanna Miller lost 10-4 to Morgan Haviland at #5, and Amber Haupert lost 10-2 to Sara VanBerkum at #6.
In varsity doubles, Free and Ruehle beat Lovan and Edwards 10-6 at #1, Kohn and Haupert lost 10-2 to Bedore and Toale at #2, and Wilkie and Miller lost 10-8 to VanBerkum and Brooke Baschke at #3.
"Sarah had our only singles win and played very well," said Cherokee coach Tricia Koster. "Hillary and Sanna played strong and had some nice shot at net in their narrow doubles loss."
In JV action, Spencer won 9-0. In JV singles, Taylor Meyerhofer lost 8-3 at #1, Emily Estala lost 8-2 at #2, Shelby Bingham lost 8-3 at #3, Paige Stieneke lost 8-1 at #4, Brianna Fowler lost 8-0 at #5, and Mikaela Sandahl lost 8-0 at #6.
In JV doubles, Meyerhofer and Stieneke lost by injury default at #1, Bingham and Sandahl lost 8-1 at #2, and Fowler and Hanna Henson lost 8-1 at #3.
