Margaret T. Trommelen, 96, of Marcus, passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus. Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. today at Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus. Rev. James Gruber will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date at the Newton Cemetery in Newton, N.J. Visitation was held at 3 p.m. on Thursday at the Earnest -- Johnson Funeral Home in Marcus. The family was present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral today. Margaret Thelma Pelt was born on June 10, 1913 in New York City (The Bronx), the sixth of 11 children born to Adam and Margaret (Schmeiser) Pelt. The family moved to Michigan when Margaret was younger and it was there that she received her education. In 1928 they returned to New Jersey where Margaret worked at various occupations.

On Sept. 16, 1933 Margaret and William Epstein were united in marriage at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Woodcliff, New Jersey. They were blessed with three children; Richard, William and Diane. Margaret's husband William passed away in 1965.

On Sept. 17, 1966 Margaret married Walter Trommelen at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Newton, New Jersey. They made their home in Belvidere, N.J. Walter passed away in 1988. In 1990, Margaret moved to Marcus to be closer to her daughter Diane. For the past few years she has resided at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson Ronald; and her brothers and sisters.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son Richard Epstein and his wife Claudia of Morgan, Vt. and their son Brad, and Richard's children Kathy, Karen, Kenneth, John and Barbara; son William Epstein and his wife Patricia of Bangor, Pa. and their children Aimee, Andrew and William; a daughter Diane Smith and her husband Edward of Marcus, and their children Dayna, Alexandria, Brad and Susan; 32 great-grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren; and a brother Charles Pelt and his wife Helen of Newton, NJ.
