Wednesday, May 26, 2010

The Little Sioux Fishing Club and the local Boy Scouts will be hosting an exciting, fun-filled day of fishing for kids and their families. Community youngsters are invited to come out to Little Sioux Park, Correctionville Iowa Saturday June 5th, 2009 to take part in the Annual Little Sioux Park Youth Fishing Derby. Registration for the event will start at 11:00 A.M. at the pool area on the south side of the lake.

Every child fishing at the derby will receive a free goodie bag of fun stuff provided by the event's local and national sponsors. In addition to free fishing, the day will feature prize drawings, fun contests and demonstrations. Hot dogs and beverages will be served from 11:00 A.M. until gone. Depending on the numbers of fishermen, everyone in attendance should get at least one hot dog.

No fishing license is needed as this is during the Iowa DNR's annual free fishing weekend. Anglers may fish free in Iowa waters June 4-6, 2010. It is requested that all children present be accompanied by a parent or guardian. These parents or guardians are encouraged to help the youth in all aspects of baiting, casting or landing fish whenever needed.

If you do not own a fishing pole or have bait or do not know how to fish, do not let this deter you from coming out and having a great time. A limited supply of bait will be provided and fishing poles will be available to borrow. Angling experts from around the area will be on hand to help those with limited fishing experience.

Be sure to bring your camera to be able to enter a special "catch and release" contest sponsored by FishCarcass is one of the many corporate sponsors for 2010. Details of the contest will be available at the derby.
