Wolverine girls lose to OA-BCIG

Friday, May 28, 2010

IDA GROVE - The River Valley softball team opened the season here with a disappointing 7-4 loss to a quality Odebolt-Arthur/Battle Creek-Ida Grove team on a windy Monday evening.

RV Coach Dean Norris felt that a couple of errors and some baserunning problems led to his team's loss.

Kelli Miller went the distance on the mound for River Valley, allowing eight hits while striking out two batters and walking none . Sarah Byers led the Wolverine offense with an RBI double, while Mackenzie Fitch added a two-run single. Kari Ludvigson, Kelli Miller and Bailey Fitch also collected hits for River Valley.

Coach Norris said that encouraging signs for the future were the way the girls stayed supportive of each other while battling back from a 6-0 deficit. He also said that the attitude of the team has been really good, and he is "looking forward to a good summer with this young squad of 15 girls."
