LyleS. Munson, 86, of Sioux City, passed away Sunday evening, May 30, 2010 at his home in Sioux City. Funeral services were held today at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Rev. Ray Kruger officiated. Burial will in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee. Visitation was from 9 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.There will be military rites at graveside by L.A. Following the services, there was a lunch and time of fellowship with the family at the home of Patti and Dan Marsh at 3505 Dakota Ave. in South Sioux City, Neb. Lyle was born Oct. 2, 1923 at Obert, Neb. to Severt and Emma (Miller) Munson.He attended Obert schools and then worked on the farm. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 until 1946, being discharged as a Seaman First Class.He was married to Patricia Brown on Dec. 13, 1951 in Sioux City. He worked as head custodian of Younker-Davidson's Department Store in Sioux City for 20 years. He did yard work and he owned and operated Lyle's Janitorial Service in Sioux City for 40 years, retiring in 2005. He was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Sioux City. He enjoyed playing cards, working on cars, pitching horseshoes, watching Chicago Cubs baseball, dancing and attending Munson Family Reunion's in Ponca, Neb. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Jerry Munson in 2008, five brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his wife, Patricia and six children: Marlene (Ron) Ransom of Sioux City; Carol (Steve) Sorenson of Sioux City; Lesa (Wayne) Trudeau of North Sioux City, S.D.; Steve Munson of Sioux City; James Munson of Sioux City; Patti (Dan) Marsh of South Sioux City, Neb.; 17 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; one brother Sye (Laverne) Munson of Norfolk, Neb.; one sister June (Bill) Harvey of San Diego, Calif., many nieces and nephews.
