44th annual Cherokee PRCA Rodeo continues

The 44th edition of the Cherokee PRCA Rodeo comes to the Cherokee County Fairgounds starting on Thursday and will run through the evening performance on Saturday.

Rodeo Stock Contractor will again be Northwest Iowa's own Rodeo Hall of Famer, Bob Barnes of Barnes/MJM PRCA Rodeo. The annual PRCA Rodeo is sponsored by the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce Rodeo Board.

PRCA Events include Bull Riding, Bareback Riding, Saddle Bronc, Steer Wrestling and Tie Down Roping. Barrel Racing is a WPRA Event.

Tonight is Queen's Night and the show is $15 for adults and $7 for children, with advance tickets selling for $12 and $5.

Saturday's show prices are $15 for adults and $7 for children ($12/$5 for advance tickets).

Tonight is "Family Night," with Family Fun Activities scheduled for 5:30 - 7 p.m., including

free pony rides, a petting zoo, and Western vendors. There will also be a Calf Ribbon Race at 6:30 p.m., and boys and girls are welcome to participate.

The Rodeo Performance will begin at 7:30 p.m., "come rain or shine."

The evening's activities start with a Calf Ribbon Race at 6:30 p.m., and the Rodeo Queen candidates will be introduced at 6:45 p.m. Audience members who would like autographs are asked to get them at this time.

The Rodeo Performance will start at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday's activities begin at 10 a.m., when the Exceptional Rodeo will be staged at the Cherokee Arena. The Exceptional Rodeo is a free event for all children and adults with special needs. Participants will get to experience a real life horse ride, work on their "bull riding" skills, learn to rope and meet rodeo queens and real coboys. A Western BBQ follows at the Historic Cherokee Depot from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., and rumor has it that a Train Robbery may take place at High Noon.

Next on the bill will be the Saturday Rodeo Parade in downtown Cherokee, starting at 4 p.m.

At 6 p.m. the Pony Rides and Petting Zoo will open at the Cherokee County Fairgrounds.

The evening will conclude, of course, with the final Rodeo Performance of the 44th Annual Cherokee PRCA Rodeo, at 7:30 p.m.

John Payne, Shidler, Okla. is the specialty act featuring buffalo being loaded on top of a livestock trailer. Andy Seiler, Ocala, Fla. is returning for the second year as the rodeo announcer. David Engelkes, Steamboat Rock, Iowa will be the clown and barrelman and Lucas Moore, Story City, is returning as bullfighter, along with Kevin Yeager, Lexington, Okla.

The rodeo livestock is provided by the Barnes PRCA Rodeos and MJM Rodeo Company and feature Wrangler National Finals Rodeo bucking stock including LV Lights, Cat Power, Tooke Scott, Chain of Command, and Little Stone.
