WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) announced today that $259,808 has been awarded to three Iowa public housing agencies to support veterans' housing needs. Specifically, the Des Moines, Sioux City and Council Bluffs housing authorities, which have agreed to partner with eligible Veterans Administration (VA) medical facilities, will receive grants to provide rental assistance to homeless vets.
"America's veterans deserve all of the respect and support we can give them, and I'm hopeful that this funding will help those who are struggling get back on their feet," said Harkin.
Details of the grants follow.
Des Moines Municipal Housing Agency: $118,797
Sioux City Housing Authority: $88,359
Municipal Housing Agency of Council Bluffs: $52,652
The funds come through the U.S. Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing program. Harkin is a senior member of the Senate Appropriations committee.
