Autumn Shaefer was the bright spot in Cherokee's offensive attack, stroking a first-pitch home run in the sixth inning. Jackie Wilson was 1-3 with a run scored for Cherokee, and Meghan Hummel and Shanon Shaefer each had a single.
Shanon Shaefer took the pitching loss for the WHS gals, allowing five earned runs on 10 hits and three walks, with one strikeout in five innings of work. Kaitlyn Miller relieved Shaefer and gave up two earned runs on four hits in one inning.
McLaury was the winning hurler for the Tigers, allowing two runs on six hits, with five Ks in seven innings worked.
"We are playing better defense each game," said Cherokee coach Cara Lubeck. "The players are continuing to work on all the little things to play a complete game.
"Tonight, the Spencer pitcher kept us off balance by throwing outside pitches and we weren't able to adjust until about half way through the game."
The busy Cherokee girls play at Spirit Lake tonight, at Hull Western Christian Wednesday, host Storm Lake Thursday, and travel to Le Mars Friday.
