CORRECTIONVILLE - River Valley dropped a tough 3-2 decision to 11th-ranked Woodbury Central in a Thursday evening Western Valley Conference softball game.
The game was tied in the 7th inning when two close calls went against the Wolverines and the eventual game winning run scored. Kelli Miller pitched a great game for RV, scattering four hits while walking two and striking out one. McKensie Fitch continued to lead the Wolverine offense with a two run single that tied the game in the 5th. Abbie Miller and Sarah Byers also added hits for RV, and Jessica Funderman played a very good defensive game at second base, handling eight chances.
RV coach Dean Norris said that though they lost the game, he thought the team's efforts were good to see, because they have been struggling lately. Coach Norris said, "The girls came out and battled and gave themselves an opportunity to win - just came up short."
