The River Valley softball team evened the season record to 1-1 with an 11-1 home victory over Kingsley-Pierson last week.
Kelli Miller picked up the win for the Wolverines on the mound, pitching six innings and allowing no earned runs, while striking out one, allowing three hits and walking no one.
Bailey Fitch led the RV offense with three hits while her sister McKensie added two more. Kari Ludvigson, Jessica Funderman, Lexie Chester, Amanda Miller, and Sarah Byers collected one hit apiece to contribute to the victory.
RV Coach Dean Norris said, "We played a very good defensive game, and were able to get some timely hits with Jessica Funderman making some nice defensive plays at second base."
In the first round of a tournament at Kingsley-Pierson, RV came out with a 9-3 victory over a 4A school in Sioux City West. Kelli Miller pitched RV to victory with a seven hit, four strike out, no walk performance. Miller also added two hits and two RBI at the plate to help her cause. Kari Ludvigson added two hits and her fine defensive game at third base "was key to the victory," said Norris. Abbie Miller, Jordan Volkert, and Olivia Goetsch each had a single, while lead off batter McKenzie Fitch added a hit and scored three runs.
Said Norris, " Again our defense was solid and the bunting game gave West problems. The girls are playing with a lot of enthusiasm and support for each other. Hopefully, it will continue throughout the season."
