The Ridge View softball competed in the tough Sheldon tournament over the weekend and went 2-2. On Friday, the Raptors defeated Sioux Center 10-0 in 5 innings. Leading the way on the mound was Jaime Christensen, who pitched a 1 hitter with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. Christensen also led the way at the plate, going 1-1 with 2 rbi. In the 2nd game on Friday , Ridge View defeated George-Little Rock/Central Lyon by the score of 9-3. Picking up the win on the mound again was senior Jaime Christensen , who gave up 5 hits and 2 earned runs with no walks and had 2 strikeouts. Leading the way at the plate were junior Emily Schiernbeck ,who went 1-4 with 3 rbi and had a double, freshman Katie Boyle , who went 2-3 with 4 rbi, and senior Ashley Buell, who went 2-4.
On Saturday, Ridge View was defeated 14-0 in 4 innings by the host Sheldon team. Taking the loss on the mound was Jaime Christensen. Ridge View was then defeated by Boyden -Hull /Rock Valley by the score of 11-9. Taking the loss on the mound was junior Michaela Else. Leading the way at the plate were freshman Kaitlin Wulf, who went 2-3 with three RBI, senior Ashley Buell , who went 2-2 with two RBI, and senior Brea Slaybaugh, who went 2-4, scored two runs and stole two bases.
Ridge View coach Scott Phelps said that the coaches weren't happy with the inconsistency the team displayed all weekend, but were happy with some of the bright spots the kids showed againist some good competition. The kids continue to work hard, said Phelps, and strive for improvement on a daily basis.
Ridge View now stands at 3-5 on the season, and hosted Lawton-Bronson on Monday in WVC action.
