'Annie' cast member bald for a good cause

Monday, June 14, 2010

When Pastor Ethan Sayler auditioned for the Cherokee Community Theater production of "Annie: the Musical," which will be performed on June 18-20 and 25-27, he was asked one question : "Are you willing to shave your head?"

Sayler was quick to respond "It's only hair," but he never knew how MUCH hair until he saw it rolling down the sidewalk.

Cast in the role of Oliver "Daddy" Warbucks, Pastor Sayler knew that being clean shaven would help as a new dimension to the character, separating the character of "Daddy Warbucks" from himself. Still, he didn't want to just shave the hair off. With the help of Lindy Reinhart, who is a member of Pastor Sayler's Cherokee Memorial Presbyterian Church, and Pastor Sayler's wife Christi, they came up with a plan to raffle off tickets to shave his head as a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. Selling nearly 400 tickets, they raised a total of $440 for the Relay.

The lucky winners of the raffle were Bruce Amundson, Rose Nixon and Noah Sayler, who performed the shearing outside of the Pastor's church recently.
