Daniel Patrick McCarthy, age 61 of Crystal Lake, Ill., and formerly of Cherokee, passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2010 in Crystal Lake. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 18, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, with burial to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A public gathering will be held today at noon with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m. tonight at Greenwood Funeral Home. Daniel Patrick McCarthy, the son of T. James and Corrinne E. (Fuller) McCarthy was born April 26, 1949, in Cherokee. His childhood years were spent in Cherokee where he attended school and graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1967. He then attended Layton School of Design in Milwaukee, Wis., and graduated in 1973.
Dan was a design project manager for Office Max in Crystal Lake. He was known for his generosity and ready willingness to help anyone in need. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, T. James McCarthy; infant brother, Michael McCarthy; and his grandparents, Maurice and Lydia McCarthy, and John and Susana Fuller.
He is survived by two sons: Michael McCarthy of Des Plaines, Ill., and Matthew McCarthy of Madison, Wis.; his mother, Corrinne McCarthy of Cherokee; three sisters: Deborah (Mark) Ammons of Sioux City, Molly McCarthy of Coralville, and Patty McCarthy of Cherokee; two brothers: Terry (Linda) McCarthy of Elgin, Ill., and John McCarthy of Sioux City; four nieces; three nephews; two great-nieces; and one great-nephew; as well as numerous aunts; uncles; cousins; and friends.
