ORANGE CITY - Maurice-Orange City/Floyd Valley hammered the young Cherokee Washington High softball team 12-0 in a three-inning game here Thursday night called early due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Sophomore Shanon Shaefer took the pitching loss for Cherokee, allowing six earned runs on nine hits and one walk, and facing 20 MOC-FV batters in two innings of work.

The Dutchmen's C. Anema got the mound win, giving up three hits and one walk and facing 12 Cherokee batters in three innings of work.

Getting the hits for Cherokee were Sarah Ruehle, Shanon Shaefer, and Taylor Woods, each stroking a single.

The WHS gals threatened to score with one out in the first inning after Shaefer and Ruehle stroked back-to-back singles, but two fly-outs ended the inning and Cherokee's only threat of the night.

MOC-FV is now 6-7 over all, and Cherokee falls to 3-12.

The busy Cherokee team hosts Spencer tonight, and then travels to Sheldon Tuesday night, and to Estherville-LC Wednesday night, before returning home to host Spirit Lake on Thursday.
