CORRECTIONVILLE - The River Valley baseball team took on Ridge View in a battle of Western Valley Conference RVs here recently.
The game was tied, 2-2, after 5 complete innings, but in the top of the 6th, Ridge View strung together some hits and, helped out by a couple of River Valley errors, went on to a 7-2 win.
Kris Alesch got the win for the Raptors, throwing seven innings, allowing two runs on three hits, while striking out 12. Seth Johnson was 3 for 4 at the plate, stole three bases, and scored twice. Kyle Wessling was 2 for 4 and he, too, scored two runs.
Sophomore Brody Riedemann went six innings on the hill for the Wolverines, allowing six hits and five runs (four earned), while striking out four and walking three. Sam Lundt pitched the 7th inning, allowing two runs on three hits. The senior struck out two.
River Valley only had three hits on the night - singles from Dillon Ray, Skylar Shever, and Brennan Riedemann. Riedemann and Blane Cullen drove in the two River Valley runs.
River Valley Coach Eric Goettsch said, " I think our approach at the plate is wrong and we need to discuss that. We are thinking too much. We're patient, as we did draw six walks and had three hit batters, but we still had too many bad strikeouts, where we are standing still and thinking too much. "
