Twenty-three area youth participated in the Hershey State Track meet in Marshalltown on June 12th, after previously qualifying at the local meet sponsored by Cherokee Parks & Recreation. Devyn Hember of Quimby won the 11-12 100 Meter Dash in a time of 14.26, and once all of the state meets in the Midwest Region have been complete,d Devyn will find out if he qualifies for the Hershey National Track and Field Meet in Hershey, Pennsylvania August 5-7th. Hember also finished 4th in the Long Jump.
Other area athletes who placed in the top ten at the state meet include Josie Hodgdon of Cherokee, who finished seventh in the Girls 9-10 long jump; Kylie Mongan of Cherokee, who finished fourth in the Girls' 9-10 400 Meter Dash; Madison Hodgdon of Cherokee, who finished seventh in the Girls 11-12 400 Meter Dash; Brookelyn Hoeppner of Cherokee, who finished tenth in the Girls 13-14 Softball Throw; Jacob Saunders of Peterson, who finished ninth in the Boys' 9-10 long jump; Peyton Boyle of Holstein, who finished eighth in the Boys' 11-12 200 Meter Dash and 9th in the 400 Meter Dash; and Michael Rosewall of Cherokee, who finished second in the Boys' 13-14 softball throw.
