AURELIA - Mike Kruger was sworn in as a member of the Aurelia School Board of Directors at a special meeting on Tuesday. Kruger was recently appointed by the Board to fill the remainder of the term of Colby Entriken, who resigned because of a move from the community.

In other business, in accordance with Iowa Code, Chapter 21.5, the Board went into closed session to interview two candidates for the position of Interim Superintendent. The Superintendent position is vacant because Lynn Evans, the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Superintendent who has filled the position for the past two school years, is no longer able to serve as a shared Superintendent with Aurelia.

The interim position at Aurelia will be for the upcoming school year only, as the Alta and Aurelia Districts will be hiring a Superintendent for the shared Alta-Aurelia District beginning with the 2011-2012 school year.

Following the closed session, the Board resumed their meeting. Board members will take a couple of days to consider the candidates and have another special meeting on Friday at 8:30 p.m. They expect to issue a contract for the interim position to one of the candidates following that meeting. The Board briefly discussed the District's Early Retirement Policy, then adjourned.

The next regular meeting of the Aurelia Board will be Tuesday, July 13 at Alta. The Alta and Aurelia Boards will meet in a joint session with consultant Les Douma regarding the Superintendent position for the shared District that evening, and following that session, each Board will have their regular monthly meeting. The time for the joint meeting has not yet been finalized, pending discussions with Douma and the Alta Board President.
