The River Valley softball team won a couple of ballgames recently, beating Kingsley-Pierson, 10-2, on the Panthers' home field, and edging Remsen-Union, 4-3, at the Rockets' own tournament on Saturday.
At Kingsley, RV overcame early struggles, leaving runners on base, to gain the victory.
Kelli Miller pitched seven strong innings for the Wolverines to post the Western Valley Conference victory, allowing four hits while striking out two, helped by a key double play from Kari Ludvigson.
Miller also helped her own cause at the plate with three hits, while Amanda Miller, Lexie Chester,Jessica Fundermann, and McKenzie Fitch each contributed two hits and Fitch stole three bases.
At Remsen, good pitching and defense helped RV barely get past R-U, 4to 3. Kelli Miller went the distance on the mound, with seven innings of six-hit pitching, while Fitch and Ludvigson led the defensive side from their shortstop and 3rd base positions, respectively.
Fitch added two hits and two stolen bases to lead the offense, while Kelli Miller and Lexie Chester each had doubles to help the cause.
The Wolverines close out their regular season on Wednesday night at Lawton-Bronson, followed by the Western Valley Conference tournament this weeknd and Districts on July 7 at Kingsley, where they will take on the host team Panthers in a re-match of their game of last week.
