The Alta-Aurelia baseball team beat two tough opponents on the road last week, defeating Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy-Palmer 13-2 in five innings in Pocahontas Thursday night, and nicking Laurens-Marathon 6-4 in Laurens Friday night.
Ben Stevens got the pitching win for the warriors against PA/P-P, allowing just two hits, walking eight, and striking out four in the 5-inning shutout.
A-A had nine hits in the game, with Dylan Suhr 2-3 with four RBI, Ryan Friedrich 3-4 with six RBI and a three-run home run, Stevens 1-3 with a double, Schuyler Radke an RBI double, and Neil Marshall and Jaden Holton with singles.
"Pocahontas is a well-coached team and has some players that can hurt you," said A-A coach Dan Wendel. "Ben did a good job keeping their hiktters guessing. We came rady to play and helped our pitcher with run support."
Christian Weiland got the mound win over Laurens-Marathon, pitching four innings and giving up one earned run on four hits and three strikeouts. Friedrich pitched the final three innings and allowed two earned runs on two hits and five Ks.
Weiland was 3-4 with a double and two RBI, Chris Bengtson 3-3 with one RBI, Suhr 2-3, and Friedrich and Stevens each rapped singles.
"I was very proud of the team tonight," said Wendel. "These kids are extremely tough and you can usually count on them to find a way to win a baseball game. Christian and Ryan pitched very well and kept us in the game until our offense could get us on top. THis was a big win for us."
