Supervisors appoint General Relief position

Friday, July 9, 2010

The Cherokee County Board of Supervisor appointed Cherokee County Community Services Director Lisa Langlitz to oversee the Cherokee County General Relief position.

Sue Casey held that position previously; Casey was recently reassigned as part of the reorganization of the Iowa Department of Human Services.

The General Relief position primarily takes care of funeral arrangements of indigent people on behalf of the county.

In other business, the Board heard from Cherokee County Engineer Dave Shanahan, who requested a wage authorization for Secondary Roads employee, Mike Halder who took over the Road Sign Forman position. Halder's new pay rate is $18.61.

Shanahan also discussed general business, including the recent visit from U.S. Congressmen Steve King, who recently toured the flood damage in Cherokee County. He also reported on county roads conditions, including the loss of gravel on many of the affected roads. Shanahan is currently working with Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to see if the county qualifies for any federal funds.

Cherokee County Recorder Dawn Jones Coombs presented the Board with her June 30, 2010 Quarterly Revenue Report. Her department collected $66,450.11 during the final quarter of the 2009/2010 fiscal year.

Also, the Board granted the final employee wage payouts for three county employees. The first was for Cherokee County Auditor Assistant Kady Brauninger, whose final wage payout was for the amount of $1,960. Final wage payout for Marty Jenness of the Secondary Roads Department was $4,411, and Ron Goth of the Secondary Roads Department final payout was $6,009.

The Board also approved wage authorizations for four employees at the County Auditor's Office. Sara Lucas was appointed Cherokee County Deputy Auditor with a pay rate of 80 percent of the County Auditor salary ($47,000 annually).

Kristi Petersen was named Human Resources Director; her pay rate is also 80 percent of the County Auditor's salary. Jill Titcomb was recently hired as the new Election Assistant and will have a pay rate of $14.85 per hour.

The final wage authorization approved by the Board was for Natalie Rassel, who was appointed Financial Assistance in the County Auditor's office and her pay rate will be $14.85 per hour.
