HUMBOLDT -The Cherokee Swim Team competed in their 3rd conference match up of the season here on June 30. The team had a great night posting the most triple winners of the season so far at 7, though winning fewer events overall.
There were 2 double winners and 10 single winners. They also won half of the relay events they competed in during the meet.
Swimmers winning all three of their individual events were Megan Brown who took the 8 & under girls' 50m freestyle in 49.09, the 25m breaststroke in 29.4 and the 25m freestyle in 24.15 seconds. Brianna Fowler won the 100m freestyle in the 15-18 girls' age group in a time of 1:19.89, the 50m backstroke in 38.28 and the 100m Individual Medley(I.M.) in 1:32.84. Kaely Hummel was a triple winner in the 11-12 girls' age group where she won the 100m freestyle in 1:27.02, the 50m breaststroke in 50.96 and the 50m freestyle in 40.31. Emma Jensen won events in the 8 & under girls' age group, taking the 25m backstroke, the 25m butterfly and the 100m I.M. Her backstroke time was 34.43, her butterfly time 31.46 and her I.M. time was 2:51.03.
Halie Kraft took three events in the 13-14 girls' age group where she won the 100m freestyle in 1:19.4, the 50m butterfly in 42.62 and the 50m freestyle in 36.00. Kylie Mongan won the 9-10 girls' 100m freestyle in 1:31.00, the 25m backstroke in 22.65 and the 25m breaststroke in 23.81. The final triple winner was from the same age group where Lindsay Williams took victories in the 25m butterfly in a time of 18.59 seconds, her 50m freestyle time was 39.4 and she also won the 100m I.M. in 1:49.53 to give her and Kylie wins in 6 of the 7 9-10 girls' events.
Double winners during the meet were Matthew Stieneke and Emily Haselhoff. Matthew won both the 50m freestyle and the 25m freestyle in the 8 & under boys' age group. In the 50m free, his winning time was 1:05.28 and in the 25m free it was 28.06 seconds. Emily won her events in the 13-14 girls' age group where she took the 50m breaststroke in 44.00 seconds and the 100m I.M. in 1:37.18, giving her and teammate Halie Kraft victories in 5 of the 6 events for this age group.
Individual event winners included Brett Barritt, who won the 11-12 boys' 100m freestyle in 1:29.25. Calvin Chalstrom took the 50m breaststroke in the same age group in a time of 50.96. Hayley Graybill was a winner in the girls' side of the age group in the 50m butterfly which she completed in 48.18 seconds. She was joined in that age group by Liz Herrera who won the 100m I.M in 1:51.62 and Grace Teusink, who won the 50m backstroke in 49.4 seconds. Beth Hanner won the 15-18 girls' 50m butterfly in 55.34 while Scott Long took the 50m backstroke in 51.53 on the boys' side of the age group. Skyler Lucas swam in his first meet for the team and won the 13-14 boys' 100m freestyle event in 1:29.12, while teammate Michael Rosewall won the 50m freestyle event in that age group in a time of 31.9 seconds. Finally, was Tyler Richardson who won the 9-10 boys' 25m breaststroke in 26.06 seconds.
The 12 winning relay teams begin with the 8 & unders who won three of their four relays. The winning girls' 100m Medley Relay team was made up of Megan Boger, Morgan Graybill, Emma Jensen and Megan Brown who won the event in 2:07.8, while it was Jensen, Graybill, Brown and Eleanor Chalstrom who won the 100m free relay event in 1:58.56. The boys' 100m Free Relay team won with members Carson Mongan, Brock Mier, Curtis Riedemann and Matthew Stieneke taking it in 2:27.53. The 9-10 girls' won both of their relay races with Taylor Richardson, Alyssa Trapp, Lindsay Williams and Kylie Mongan taking the 100m Medley in 1:34.56, while it was Williams, Mongan, Abby Goettsch and Jennifer Barritt winning the 100m Free Relay in 1:18.43. The 11-12 boys and girls did the same by winning their 200m Medley and 200m Free relay events for a clean sweep in this age group. Team members for the boys were Taylan Entriken, Kyle Roepke, Calvin Chalstrom and Brett Barritt. The winning medley time was 3:26.9 while it took just 3:07.62 to complete the free relay.
For the girls it was Grace Teusink, McKenna Alitz, Hayley Graybill and Kaely Hummel in the medley event which they won with a time of 3:10.25, while it was Graybill, Hummel, Taylor Hirschman and Liz Herrera taking the free relay event in 2:52.71. In the 13-14 age group it was the girls' relays winning both the 200m Medley and 200m Free relay events with team members Mikki Hinkhouse, Emily Haselhoff, Halie Kraft and Britney Sargent who won the medley event in 2:57.59 and the free in 2:34.3. Finally the 15-18 boys' 200m free relay team of Skyler Lucas, Scott Long, Michael Rosewall and Brennon Prentice won with a time of 2:5.87.
The swim team will next host two home meets. On July 7 they will take on Emmetsburg and then on Tuesday, July 13, they will meet Algona in a big meet against a powerhouse team in the Conference.
