The South O'Brien baseball team won two tough road games last week, beating Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn 13-4 in Marcus, and defeating Remsen-Union 11-1 in five innings in Remsen.
Jarod Syndergaard got the pitching win over MMC, allowing three runs on four hits and nine strikeouts in six innings of work. Jimmy Callahan pitched one inning and gave up one hit and struck out one.
Neal Bunt took the loss for MMC, allowing five runs on 10 hits and three strikeouts in seven innings of work.
Syndergaard led the Wolverines at the plate with a 3-3 game, two RBI, and five runs scored. Ryan Brasser was 2-3 with an RBI and run scored, and Callahan 2-4 with three RBI. Zane Roberts was 2-4 with two RBI and a run scored, and Trevor Lansink was 1-3 with an RBI and run scored.
Jesse Kunzweiler was 2-3 with an RBI to lead the eagles, while Zach Specht was 1-2 with an RBI and run scored, and Nathan Wendt 1-3 with an RBI and run scored, and Tanner Utesch 1-2 with a run scored.
Brasser got the mound win in the victory over Remsen-Union, allowing one hit and fanning five in three innings of shutout baseball. Chas Biery pitched two innings for the Wolverines and gave up two hits and struck out one.
Syndergaard again swung the hot bat for SOS, with a 2-3 game, four RBI and a run scored. Tanner Matthews was 2-2 with two RBI and two runs scored, Biery 2-2 with an RBI and run scored, and Brasser 2-2 with an RBI.
South O'Brien plays Hinton at 5:30 p.m. Saturday in Cherokee in first-round Class 2A District action. Cherokee plays at 7 p.m. against Sioux Central. Those two winners meet in Cherokee at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
