The busy Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn softball team has won all four of its games played in July, including a thrilling 1-0 victory over Granville Spalding in Class 1A Regional Tournament first-round action Wednesday night in Cleghorn.
On July 1, the Eagles smacked Le Mars Gehlen 12-1 in Le Mars in a five-inning game called early due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Kayla Foresman got the pitching win for MMC, allowing just two hits and one run, with three strikeouts.
Erica Dreckman led the tough Eagle offense with a 4-4 game, three runs scored, and an RBI. Foresman helped the cause with a 2-3 night, two runs scored and one RBI, Carly Lehnhoff was 2-3 with two RBI and three runs scored, Reagan McDaniel was 2-4 with an RBI and run scored, and mariah Walton 1-3 with two RBI and a run scored.
MMC beat South O'Brien 6-1 in Cleghorn on July 2, with Stephanie Specht getting the mound win, allowing three hits and no earned runs, and striking out five in seven innings of work.
Walton and McDaniel had the lone hits for the winners, with McDaniel adding two RBI and a run scored, and Walton a run scored.
The Eagles beat Remsen-Union 5-2 in Remsen July 5, as Foresman shut down the Rockets on five scattered hits and one earned run, while striking out four in seven innings.
Foresman was 2-3 with two RBI, Dreckman 2-5 with two runs scored, Specht 1-1 with a double and run scored, Lehnhoff 2-4 with a run scored, and Jalyn Doeden 1-4 with a run scored.
In the tournament win over Spalding, Foresman got the pitching win, giving up five hits and striking out two in the seven-inning shutout gem.
Foresman singled to score Dreckman for the game's only run. Dreckman, Doeden, Specht, and Foresman had the hits for MMC.
